Experience
I spent 11 years as a public school library teacher, at all grade levels, where I worked with every kid in the school. I love to help kids look at their learning in new ways, and I get great joy out of seeing the light bulb suddenly go on in their heads and know they are thinking, "Oh, NOW I get it!" In my role as library teacher, I loved to help kids find just the right book that would inspire them, and make them dying to pick up the book and keep reading! I also helped kids learn to gather information for their research, synthesize it into a compelling argument, and present it efficiently in a variety of formats. My own three children were all accepted to highly selective colleges and universities, and I helped them prepare their essays and applications. I can help your child prepare these too; they are a completely different type of writing than they usually need for school. In 2014, I was awarded National Board Certification for teaching excellence by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. This also means that I know a lot about the Common Core! I have had several articles about teaching and learning published in peer-reviewed journals, and I have a #1 Amazon best-selling book called "Social Media Fascination", about how to teach kids (and adults) to use social media well. I currently work as a Family Coach helping parents be the best that they can be, so they can raise happy, successful kids. My coaching certifications include Strategic Intervention, taught by Tony Robbins' coach-training team. Tutoring kids to be successful in their learning is another avenue for me to have a positive impact on kids and families.

Hobbies
In addition to reading, and writing, I also love to do lots of outdoor stuff! My family loves to ski in Maine, hike mountains, hang out at the lake, and go for walks on the beach. I take our two retrievers for a long walk nearly every day, and have trained them to be (mostly) pretty obedient. I direct our church choir and sing with a semi-pro chorus in Boston. I still play violin, which I started learning when I was 6 years old. I love to travel and meet people from all over the world. I enjoy movies and shows such as Star Wars, Star Trek, The Lord of the Rings, and Parks and Recreation. My engineer husband and I have raised three kids, 25 (officer on a Naval sub), 22 (attending nursing school), and 19 (studying to become a film composer).
